Commercial Contracting Corporation completed the concrete scope of work for the Zen City Center Apartments in Troy, Michigan. Our scope consisted of excavation, backfill, concrete foundations, slab on grade and slab on deck pours.
• 1,130 cu. yds concrete in foundations.
• 7,000 cu. yds of spoils excavated and trucked offsite.
• 4,020 cu. yds in slabs. 1 level slab on grade, 7 levels slab on metal deck.
• 360,509 square feet of floors finished.
The multi-family high-rise development was constructed with formed concrete foundations sitting on geo-piers, a pre-cast concrete elevator, stair cores and cold-formed metal framing for the upper level structure.
Floors were poured one level at a time and the subsequent framing commenced for the next level. Light gauge metal deck over trusses were laid, and a new concrete level is poured. The process repeated until the 8th floor was reached.
Each level, from framing to reinforcing to placement of concrete was performed in a 30 day cycle. Each level, which was approximately 45,000 square feet, was poured in 3 placements. CCC used 30 concrete pump days on the project. Our subs tied over 210 tons of resteel and placed 400,000 square feet of wire mesh.
CCC’s Steel Services group was hired to weld the temporary expansion joint at each level of the building. They also set and weld the brick ledges on level 3 and 4 on the outside of the structure.
