Commercial Contracting Corporation (CCC) was the construction manager for the new Robert C. Valade Park located along Detroit’s east riverfront. Making The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy’s dream a reality, CCC built this unique park that features a play area for kids, a floating bar for adults, a bridge, a community pavilion, barbecue girlls and a restaurant / banquet facility named The Shed.
Transforming the former industrial site that was once the location of cement silos and later a storage lot for Coast Guard buoys, the 3.2 acre park features a sandy beach area with chairs and umbrellas, colorful lifeguard station inspired playground houses, a children’s garden with objects that make sounds and features Detroit’s only floating bar, in the form of a 120-foot-long barge that spans two boat slips.
CCC managed twenty-one (21) sub-contractors to successfully build the project. The 3,850 square foot shed structure features large garage-door style openings designed to fill the space with natural light and fresh air. The facility features a full kitchen capable of hosting events at this unique facility. CCC self-performed The Shed’s steel fabrication and erection, along with the carpentry and acoustical work.
Named in honor of Robert C. Valade, The Molly and Mark Valade Family Fund made the naming gift to honor Mark’s late father, a Detroit native and former Chairman and CEO of Carhartt.
