Located on Michigan State University (MSU) campus, Forest Akers Golf Course is one of the premier golf courses in the region and ranks one of the best collegiate facilities in the country. To ensure the future success of MSU’s golf program, the construction of a new men’s and women’s golf center was planned. The construction called for a new 18,000-square-foot building with an indoor practice area, student-athlete lounge, men’s and women’s lockers rooms, coaches’ offices, video room and a kitchen area featuring nutrition/hydration stations.
Frank Rewold and Son, construction manager, hired CCC to perform carpentry and general trades for the new golf facility. CCC’s scope of work included framing, insulation, drywall, plaster, acoustical ceilings, wood ceilings, door and hardware, toilet accessories, column covers, glass marker boards, interior signage and roller window shades. All work was self-performed by CCC’s Interior Group except four subcontractors were used for spray form insulation, plaster work, interior signage and roller window shades.
A unique aspect of the project was a lot of specialty interior items were used including linear wood ceilings, barn-style sliding doors and specialty glass marker boards. Construction was completed in March 2016, and the new center will facilitate recruitment, training and development of future athletics to ensure continued success of the MSU golf team.
