In the fall 2016, General Motors (GM) announced it would invest in its Lake Orion Assembly Plant to launch a new vehicle. GM contracted CCC as the general contractor for their General Assembly (GA) Tooling and Equipment Installation project at the plant.
CCC’s scope of work included the installation, relocation and rework of the general assembly infrastructure, operation work stations, and tooling and equipment for the new product. CCC self-performed all tooling rearrangement, new tooling installation, and new robot cells installation. Six subcontractors were used for controls, electrical, piping, concrete, fire protection, sheet metal and painting.
The challenging aspect of the project to date has been all the “on the fly” changes, installing complex conveyor controls for glass cell and VIN etch, and figuring out a very elaborate SDS process that took many days to install. Despite all the challenges, the project was completed in August 2016.
