Mack Engine to Dundee South Engine Equipment Relocation and South Warehouse Addition

Commercial Contracting Corporation was Design/Builder for the 155,000 square foot addition to the FCA Group Dundee Engine Plant. The addition required careful demolition of the existing plant to not pollute ongoing manufacturing. Stick built partition walls were built from floor to deck and visqueen tarp barriers were used to control dust. The addition included six truck docks and one maintenance overhead door to support shipping and receiving.

The work required close coordination with FCA Manufacturing Engineering so as to not interfere with existing plant operations. All construction work was successfully performed while the plant maintained normal manufacturing production.

Steel erection was self-performed by CCC following our AISC Certified (Advanced) erector program. CCC also self-performed the carpentry work on the project. CCC successfully managed demolition, site work, concrete, masonry, roofing, siding, mechanical, electrical, fire protection and painting subcontractors to construct the building on-time and with zero recordable injuries.

CCC Quick Byte

Complicating the project were unexpected poor soil conditions that required an engineered limestone sand soils so that concrete work could resume. In addition to this, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed construction work for nearly eight weeks and required significantly modified safe to work procedures that the project management team implemented to restart and maintain a safe, socially distanced jobsite.
