Marshbank Park: West Bloomfield, MI
When West Bloomfield Township decided to rebuild Marshbank
Park they hired Commercial Contracting Corporation to act as a
General Contractor, overseeing the entire project.
Funded in part by a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources
Trust fund, this $5 million, 100‐acre park was to be built using
the newest methods and materials in sustainable development.
The park consists of three buildings, two baseball fields, a soccer
field, walkways, boardwalks, floating pier, roadways, and
multiple parking lots – all to be built and designed keeping the
surrounding watershed, wildlife, and land in mind.
Managing a project like Marshbank can be complicated and every facet of the job must be watched to
make sure the proper materials are being used where they should be. Whenever possible, renewable
concrete and manufactured stone surfaces were used. Porous asphalt
paving, rain gardens and bioswales were all used to help with stormwater
management. The park was landscaped with native plant species to not
only maintain a natural environment, but one that is low maintenance as
well. All aspects of the Park were designed to be efficient and
nondisruptive.
Marshbank Park highlights CCC’s commitment to “green” construction and
sustainable development.
