General Motors de Mexico Silao Plant
Throughout Commercial Contracting Corporation’s 60‐year
relationship with General Motors we have partnered on many
diverse projects. This partnership has taken us to many different
locations around the world, including work on their engine and
transmission plant at the Silao, Mexico facility.
Our work in the Silao facility was spread over 2 years. In 2006
we were awarded work on the engine plant and in 2008 we won
the transmission
plant project.
The engine plant
was a completely
new, green field
plant at the Silao
site. CCC was
responsible for
installing all the
production
machinery as
well as all of the support equipment including coolant filtration,
mist and dust collection, chip systems, and process waste tanks
and piping. We completed this project in 18 months, beating the
timing goals set in the original project scope.
In 2008 we began work on the transmission plant that was to be
used for the production of a six‐speed rear wheel drive
transmission. Over the span of 12 months CCC was solely
responsible for the installation of all machining equipment,
assembly and test equipment, coolant filtration systems, process
piping, mist collection systems, and the crane/conveyor systems.
General Motors and CCC find it noteworthy that the completion
of these two projects required over one million man hours and
the projects were closed without having a single lost‐time
incident.
